The Contact Lens Exam Process

When you book your next eye exam, please let us know that you are interested in discussing contact lenses. By letting us know in advance, your optometrist can allocate the extra time needed for the contact lens exam and fitting.

At the beginning of the exam, your optometrist will chat with you about your eye and overall health. This may include past issues you may have had with your health or vision, as well as your family’s health history. Your family history and medical history may increase your chances of developing serious eye diseases or other conditions.

After this conversation, it’s on to the main event: the actual testing! Your optometrist will guide you through a series of different tests designed to measure your eyes’ strength, acuity, coordination, and overall health. The results of these tests will be used to determine if contact lenses are a good choice for you, and which style is best suited to your needs.

The final part of the exam consists of comprehensive education and training provided by our staff that will help show you how to properly clean and maintain your contact lenses, as well as how to safely insert and extract them from your eyes.

Types of Contact Lenses We Offer

Patients with astigmatism require special contact lenses. This is because astigmatism causes the cornea to bulge outward, preventing traditional contacts from laying flat. Patients with astigmatism also require multiple prescriptions on each lens, so each lens needs to remain rotationally stable to provide clear vision. That’s why toric lenses are specially weighted to prevent them from rotating throughout the day.

If your eyes need multiple prescriptions, then you may want to consider multifocal contact lenses. This means you won’t need to switch between multiple pairs of contacts or glasses to enjoy clear vision at any distance.

Transition contact lenses, like their glasses counterparts, are designed to adapt to any lighting situation dynamically. By darkening in the presence of bright lights and lightening in the presence of low light, you can enjoy comfortable vision without the need for sunglasses.

What Would Make Contacts Not Right For You

Contact lenses aren’t for everyone, and certain factors may prevent you from wearing contact lenses. These include:

  • Severe allergies that affect your eyes
  • Working in an environment with lots of dust, smoke, or airborne chemicals
  • Having thyroid problems or diabetes
  • Acute arthritis in your hands (which can make inserting and removing contacts difficult)
  • Dry eyes, which can be caused by medication, pregnancy, or select medical conditions

The contact lens exam and fitting allow your optometrist to determine if contact lenses are a good choice for you. To help make their assessment as accurate as possible, please let your optometrist know if you have any medical conditions that could affect your ability to wear contact lenses or require you to wear specialty lenses.

Our Contact Lens Subscription Service

Ordering contacts has never been easier with our contact lens subscription service. Starting at $45 a month, you can ensure you always have a pair of contact lenses handy without having to come in for an appointment.

How it Works

  • We’ll perform an eye exam and fit your contact lenses (standard fees still apply).
  • You’ll sign up for a minimum 6 month subscription for your contact lenses. We ask for the first 3 months in advance, then payments will take place on the 25th of each month after.
  • Our subscription also includes future contact lens aftercare appointments!

We don’t offer any insurance billing with the subscription service.
